In 1393 the Mamluk sultan received an elephant, a giraffe, lions, and other wild animals that were sent as a gift by the ruler of the Dahlak (1) archipelago. (2)

 

Left the Mausoleum and Madrasa of Sultan Barquq who received the gifts Cairo, Egypt

(1) Dahlak: island off the Eritrean coast.

(2) This is repeated by Hafiz Ibn Hajar al Asqalani (d1448)
